What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a field of dentistry that is focused on correcting the position of the teeth with the purpose of achieving better esthetics, speech, and function. Braces are a set of metallic, clear plastic or ceramic attachments that will be placed on the teeth surface. Braces will in turn hold a thin metal wire through a thin slut that is located in the center. Teeth then start aligning in the direction of the thin wire.
Orthodontic treatment can take 6 months to couple of years depending of the severity of the problem and can be used in both children and adults.
Spacing between the permanent front teeth at the age 6 to 8 is a sign that there is less chance for crowding in the future. Make sure to consult with your dentist to evaluate the need for braces if your kids have crowded teeth or no space between the permanent front teeth at the age 6 to 8.
